The story

In 2003 Denis and Enzo, after reading these few verses of Rosa Lanfranchi Mazzuccato, which highlight very well the crazy freedom of nature and the frustration and almost perverse fascination of the town, finally decided to go back to the origins of their respective families and to return to the country after many years spent ‘dreaming and desiring’ a different life.

Indeed, even if they both come from the finance world – a sector far away from agriculture – they embark together on this new affair, and decide to follow in the footsteps of their fathers, although in a different way, and to plant a vineyard.

Their families owned once some tens of hectares of country, where they grew tobacco and vineyard, in one of the most typical and oenologically renowned areas of Trentino, the Lagarina Valley. Unfortunately, what remains of this past is only the firm of Enzo’s family, whose brother works approx. 2 hectares of vineyard divided in two plots of land in Isera, home to the famous Marzemino.

Leuta is created ideally in 2003 on the initiative of Denis, who is soon joined by Enzo. After over a year of continuous travels mainly to Tuscany, a country that appeals to both of them, in addition to the 2 hectares of vineyard in the Lagarina Valley, in 2004 they purchase 25 hectares in the area of San Lorenzo di Cortona in Tuscany, not far away from the Trasimeno lake and Montepulciano.

This is the LEUTA estate, a single patch of 25 hectares located 310 meters over the sea, not yet vinied, which has some very interesting characteristics in terms of viticulture, as the analyses conducted clearly indicate.

In the autumn of 2004, the ‘Tuscany Project’ is formally and legally started with the incorporation of ‘Lagarini s.s. di Zeni & Berlanda’ and the first small-scale vintage for the preparation of what will become the Vin Santo Leuta.
